Texas Security Bank Data Security Incident Notification

Texas Security Bank values the trust our customers have placed in us and we understand the importance of protecting their information. This notice is regarding a recent security incident that we discovered and addressed that may have involved some of that information.

On August 17, 2018, we became aware that one or more unauthorized individuals gained access to certain bank employees' email accounts. Upon learning of the suspicious activity, we immediately secured the email accounts, began an internal investigation, and engaged a leading cyber security firm to assist with the investigation. Our investigation determined that the unauthorized individuals may have accessed emails or attachments that may have contained customer information provided to Texas Security Bank, including customer names, addresses, telephone numbers, Social Security numbers, federal tax identification numbers or financial account numbers. In the case of our corporate customers, the emails or attachments also may have contained information about authorized corporate users, including their names and Social Security numbers. Texas Security Bank's internal network and client file systems, which are distinct from our email system, were not accessed.

Texas Security Bank is in the process of providing written notice to our customers by first class mail and is offering credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to affected individuals. For individuals that have additional questions, Texas Security Bank has established a contact number where individuals may obtain additional information regarding the incident. We encourage our customers to remain vigilant by reviewing their account statements for any unauthorized activity and reporting such activity to Texas Security Bank or other financial institution.

We sincerely regret that this incident occurred and apologize for any inconvenience or concern this may cause. To help prevent something like this from happening in the future, we have added additional security measures, including multi-factor authentication on all employees' email accounts and an improved email filtering service. We also will be conducting additional training and education for our employees regarding email security.
